A Day In The Life Of The Life Goals Founder (During A Launch Week)

This week at Life Goals HQ, we’re launching our flagship course, Self-Commitment Academy.

I thought it’d be fun to take you through a day in my life during this exciting week. If you’re launching a course or want to know what a day in the life of a magazine editor and course creator looks like, here you go!

Our launch is from Tuesday, January 21–January 30, 2020. There has been so much that’s gone into planning it from the idea, to creation, to marketing. A lot of feelings of imposter syndrome and fear have come up through the process, but ultimately, it’s been the best thing I’ve done so far!

Here’s what one day during launch looked like:

5:30 a.m. – My alarm goes off and I spend about 10 minutes laying there before getting up. I took off the snooze option on my phone, because it’s been a habit I’m working on breaking. It’s a dangerous game I play but usually, it’s effective. The first thing I do is make my bed. I feel like it’s a quick thing to do that sets the tone for my day.

5:40 a.m. – Go downstairs, grab a glass of water and move to the couch. I go through a gratitude journal that has a prompt for each day. I flip to a random page on “showering” so I write down all the things I’m thankful for about my shower. Then, I find a meditation on Insight Timer. I don’t love it, so I cancel it after about two minutes. I decide to listen to this Abraham Hick’s morning meditation instead.

6:20 a.m. – I make oatmeal for breakfast with almond butter, cinnamon and a banana. It’s my go-to breakfast every morning. While I eat, I read the news from TheSkimm. I like to have an idea of what’s going on in the world, but it can feel really heavy so I find TheSkimm to be the perfect option. Usually I’ll browse the Refinery29 “Things you need to know this AM” newsletter too. But I skipped that this morning. I take my vitamins after breakfast. Right now I’m taking a probiotic from Silver Fern and KeraHealth‘s hair supplement.

6:40 a.m – Then I’ll take a shower. This morning I took a few moments in the shower to be extra grateful for it, since that was my topic this morning. I’ll get ready while listening to a podcast. Today I chose to listen to Kate and Oliver Hudson’s podcast “Sibling Revelry.” The episode is with Jimmy Kimmel and his brother, which was fun.

7:20 a.m. – I’m off to a coffee shop. I went to an Abraham Hicks’ Workshop this past weekend, which was fantastic. And so, I got a CD from them for attending, so I listened to that on my way. It put me in a good vibe for work. I need the extra inspiration during launch week. I want to feel great energy, because I’ve never put myself out there like this before!

7:30 a.m. – Arrive at my usual coffee shop. I order a black coffee and sit in my regular spot. The barista didn’t realize it was me today, which makes me laugh. I pretty much treat this spot as my office. I’ll usually take the first 30 minutes to an hour to ease into work. I will check my emails, make sure that the blog post for the day went live, look at the blog stats and ad revenue, check-in on the Collective Club, post to social media, and reply to anything that needs replying to. I’ve been practicing having a zero inbox, so I have folders for everything now and have a great practice of replying right away if it’ll take a couple of minutes or less. And then I’ll look at my ClickUp inbox for all the tasks that I want to get to today.

8:45 a.m. – I officially get started on the meat of my work at 8:45 today. I’m working on getting my webinar all set up for tomorrow. I’ll be talking about “How To Glow Up In 2020” with some of my best self-commitment practices. This will be my first ever webinar, and I’m pretty excited and nervous about it. It’s the first course I’ve done on my own as well. And I’m so proud of what I’ve created and believe it will be impactful, so I want to share some of my best tips while also promoting the course.

9–11:30 a.m. – I’m always forgetting to put on my blue light blocking glasses, but I can already tell today that I’ll get a headache if I don’t wear them. I have Felix Gray glasses in Lovelace, and boy do I “love” them. ;) I spent a couple of hours creating the webinar event page and getting that all the pages set up. And then I wrote the email invitation to join the webinar.

I grabbed my go-to drink after a couple of hours working because my rewards card was full, so I get a discount! I got an iced dirty chai tea latte with oat milk. It’s my absolute favorite. I finally finish sending off the email at 11:30. It took longer than I thought, but I’m pretty happy with it. It’s always nervewracking before sending out an email. Does that ever go away?

11:30 a.m. – There are so many small tasks that go into a launch, like adding in the course link to the Life Goals Mag page. I do a lot of little to-dos and eat a luna bar to hold me over until a later lunch.

1:30 p.m. – Leave the coffee shop to have lunch at home. Today, I just have toast with some spicy avocado hummus. While eating lunch, I’ll usually watch a YouTube video. Today, I watched one from Sarah’s Day.

2 p.m. – 4:45 p.m. – Gotta say, my afternoons tend to be a little less productive than I’d like lately. So, I didn’t get a ton done. But I did decide on my bonus offers for webinar attendees and drafted an email for it.

4:45–6:45 p.m. – Go to a yoga class at my gym. Since I’ve moved back to my home town, I haven’t made any new friends. A nice girl introduced herself to me in class today, so that was fun. I hope she comes to future classes!

7 p.m. – Go home and heat up dinner. I meal prepped a 5-ingredient sweet potato and black bean chili recipe on Sunday from Minimalist Baker.

7:30–9:15 p.m. – Work on my webinar slides for tomorrow. Normally I’ll also watch a show around 8pm, but I had to finish the presentation.

9:15-10 p.m. – I end the night by doing my skincare routine from Bio Clarity and reading ‘City of Girls‘ before falling asleep.
